Farmingdale Mayor Wins 2022 EPIC Champion Award; Other Village Events

EPIC Long Island helps people with epilepsy, disabilities and mental health challenges. Mayor Ekstrand is a "longtime friend" of EPIC LI.

FARMINGDALE, NY — Farmingdale Village Mayor Ralph Ekstrand has received the 2022 EPIC Champion Award, as well as Best Dressed Golfer at the annual Don Luneburg Golf & Tennis Classic, the village announced.

EPIC Long Island provides care, education, support and services to people with epilepsy, developmental or intellectual disabilities, and mental health challenges.

Ekstrand is a "long-time friend and supporter" of EPIC Long Island, according to NYGolf Magazine. Ekstrand is also the co-owner of Moby Drugs, a pharmacy on Main Street in Farmingdale. Since 1982, Ekstrand has provided high-quality pharmaceutical services to EPIC Long Island.

"I am honored to be the recipient of the 2022 EPIC Champion Award," Ekstrand said in a statement. "EPIC Long Island provides integral programs and services and I am delighted to continue supporting their efforts."

  • The weekly farmer's market on Sundays until Nov. 20. The markets run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Youth Open Mic Night is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at Village Hall Acts. Individuals and groups of all ages can register in advance via email: openmicfarmingdale@gmail.com, or can sign-up at 7 p.m. at the event. Limited seating inside Village Hall.
  • Culper Spy Ring Lecture/Book Signing at Village Hall, featuring Bill Bleyer, is slated for 2 p.m. Oct. 23 at Village Hall. The lecture is free, but registration is required by Oct. 20, as there is limited seating. To register, call 516-249-0093, ext 204, or email arodenburg@farmingdalevillage.com. People are asked to indicate if they would like to purchase any books. The event was organized by the Farmingdale Village Cultural Arts Committee.
  • Farmingdale Halloween Parade, Family Fun - Pony Rides, Petting Zoo - 2 p.m. Oct. 29. Come in costume. The parade is at 2 p.m. and will be followed by pony rides, a petting zoo, and a costume contest. Plus, the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce members will have candy for the kids. It is a free event. Parade step off: Northside School, 2 p.m. (marchers & groups meet by 1:45 pm) - the parade proceeds south along Main St. to the Village Green, 361 Main St. Rain date is Oct. 30.
  • The 9th Annual Long Island Gingerbread House Contest is slated for noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 10 at The Chocolate Duck. Start planning your creations or come see the amazing entries at the event.
