“Farmingdale State College is a supporter of Car Free Day because it is in line with our ongoing efforts to be an energy-efficient campus that is a model for both institutions of higher learning and the greater Long Island community,” Farmingdale President John S. Nader said. “Our support includes not only an annual Car Free Day rally, but a commuter webpage which provides valuable resources to encourage the Farmingdale State community to use alternative means of getting to campus. We can all agree that reducing vehicle traffic is good for the environment and has positive long-term effects.”
The college has also started courtesy shuttle service for students, faculty and staff in order to reduce vehicle miles. The RAM Shuttle runs weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and makes stops at the Farmingdale LIRR station and the college’s Aviation Center on Route 110.
Car Free Day LI is supported by a broad-based group of Long Island leaders from major employers; business, civic and environmental groups; universities, and municipalities.
Commuters, students and families can pledge to go car-free or car-lite at the Car Free Day LI website.
Participants are also eligible to win raffle prizes, including a Wine Country bike tour, theater tickets, gift cards, bicycles, tickets to a New York Cosmos game and more.
