FARMINGDALE, NY — Beautification is up in Farmingdale Village between flowers being planted and the renovation of Five Corners Park complete, according to a newsletter from Mayor Ralph Ekstrand.

The Five Corners Park upgrades include a new gazebo, shrubs, plantings, benches, signage, stockade fence, flags, lighting, a donated sculpture, and more. Ekstrand thanked Nassau County for the $150,000 grant used for 67 percent of the park rehabilitation expenses, as well as Trustee Cheryl Parisi, who spearheaded the renovation project.

"We thank Cheryl for her tremendous efforts, the park truly beautifies and enhances the Village, especially as the 'Gateway' from the north end of the Village at Melville Road to downtown Main Street," Ekstrand said.

The Five Corners project began in 2008 when the village identified the major gateways to the village, according to Parisi.

"It is representative of how beautiful the Village is," she said.

New signage at Five Corners Park includes a "welcome" sign, as well as a "Culinary Quarter" sign. Ekstrand thanked Parisi and her husband, Nick, for the signage designs.

The Culinary Quarter distinction was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 26, 2019, to commemorate the many years of food excellence and diversity that the Village offers, Ekstrand said.

"The town has grown a tremendous culinary scene filled with a variety of restaurants, bars, speakeasies, pop-up and culinary events," he said. "And Farmingdale Culinary Quarter is home to celebrity chefs, restaurants, and bakers (Eric LeVine, Christina Bisbee, among others), ethnic cuisines, dessert/pastries, coffee shops, and breweries. Plus there are a great variety of shops, businesses and organizations throughout the Village. Thank you for supporting the local merchants, and to the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce for their continued support!"

The Village Beautification Committee, overseen by Parisi, is comprised of community volunteers and junior members of the Village Fire Department.

"They do an amazing job planting flowers, hanging baskets and more throughout the downtown," Ekstrand said. "Special thanks to Trustee Cheryl Parisi for her ongoing beautification efforts, and to all the Village beautification committee volunteers, DPW, the Fire Department and Juniors for their wonderful planting efforts."

Ekstrand encouraged Farmingdale residents to enjoy the community events happening downtown this summer, including Music On Main, Movie Nights, Village Pops Concerts, Art In The Park, Open Mic Nights, and more.

Ekstrand thanked Parisi for coordinating the ice cream sponsors for movie nights and Village Pops Concerts. Attendees enjoy free ice cream at the Village Pops Concerts and at Movie Nights this summer, plus free popcorn at the movies.

"Thank you to our ice cream sponsors: 317 Main Street, Bagel Hut, Cascone & Kluepful, Croxley’s, Dark Horse, Farmingdale Village Laundromat, Kick’N Chicken, Nutty Irishman, Priestley Chiropractic, Scrubz Body, That Meetball Place, Vespa, Weichert Realtors Performance Homes, Runners Edge and Harleys American Grille," Ekstrand said.
