Farmingdale High School Announces Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Class of 2022

Farmingdale, NY (September 17, 2021)—Farmingdale High School announced their Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Class of 2022 this month. Seniors Kevin Piraino and Amanda Treulich took top honors. Kevin Piraino achieved the highest cumulative GPA out of 460 students, earning himself the top spot of valedictorian. Amanda Treulich attained the rank of salutatorian. Both students were also informed that they advanced to the semifinal round in this year’s National Merit Scholarship Program.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment for these two students and puts us in awe of their commitment to learning,” said Farmingdale High School principal, Dr. Samuel Thompson. “Congratulations to both Kevin and Amanda! We are extremely proud of this exceptional academic accomplishment!”
While maintaining a rigorous academic schedule, both Piraino and Treulich participated—and excelled—in their extracurricular pursuits. Kevin Piraino is President of both the National Honor Society at Farmingdale High School and President of the History Club. Kevin is a team leader in the History Club, Model United Nations Delegate, Legislative Action Committee Member, Robotics Team Club Member, Marching Band Section Leader, and New York State Senator Thomas’ Youth Policy Cabinet Member. As an AP Scholar, Kevin is also a member of the National Honor Society, Science Honor Society, Tri M-Music Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society. To add, Kevin is passionate about volunteer work, being the Team Captain and Participant Recruiter for St. Baldrick’s #Shave2Save Event, and working as a Private Tutor for Middle School Math and food pantry volunteer. Kevin’s cumulative GPA, which afforded him the title of Class Valedictorian, totaled 105.32.
Treulich is a member of the Farmingdale High School vocal jazz ensemble and chamber orchestra. She is also the Co-Head of the costume crew for Playcrafters productions. She is also a member of the executive board for the French Honor Society and History club. Truelich also serves as President of Tri-M Society, SADD Club, and Girl Up. She is also an active member of the Varsity Soccer Team and Girl Scouts. Treulich’s cumulative GPA that placed her as class salutatorian is 104.66.
“Congratulations to Kevin and Amanda on being named Farmingdale High School Class of 2022 valedictorian and salutatorian,” said Superintendent Paul Defendini. “Their years of hard work and dedication have paid off in a major way, and the entire Farmingdale family could not be more proud of your success.”

Both Piraino and Truelich are also pursuing a Seal of Civic Readiness. This program launched by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) is currently being offered in only nine long island high schools. Civic readiness is the ability to make a positive difference in the public life of our communities through the combination of civic knowledge, skills and actions, mindsets, and experiences.
