Journalist's Artwork To Be Featured At Farmingdale College

FARMINGDALE, NY - From Farmingdale State College: In response to world events - from unrest in Gaza and the West Bank to the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico - artist/journalist/author Molly Crabapple will be featured at the Memorial Gallery at Farmingdale State College in a show called “Scribing Reality: A survey of reportage works by Molly
Crabapple.”

The exhibition will run February 9 – April 9 at the College’s Memorial Gallery, in Hale Hall. A lecture by the artist will take place Tuesday, February 13, 11 a.m. – noon, in Gleeson Hall 104. Later that day, from 5 – 7 p.m. in Hale Hall, will be a reception and book signing of Crabapple’s memoir, Drawing Blood. For more information, call 631-420- 2181.

Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Admission is free, and the gallery is accessible to persons with mobility impairments.

Crabapple’s art is a visceral tour of current events. Image after image, the viewer is engulfed by scenes of war, oppression, crises, politics and natural disasters. Her varied topics include images of time spent in Iraq, Syria, and Guantanamo Bay; a response to the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign/election; the refugee crisis and migrant labor camps; and Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.

Crabapple lives in New York. Brothers of the Gun, her illustrated collaboration with Syrian war journalist
Marwan Hisham, will be published by Random House later this year. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.

The show is curated by Memorial Gallery director Beth Giacummo.
