King, Suozzi Joining Planned Gun Violence Rally

The rally, set for March 24, will coincide with rallies and marches across the country.

Representatives Peter King and Tom Suozzi announced that they will be joining high school students at Farmingdale State College on March 24 to protest gun violence and demand an end to mass shootings.

The congressmen are co-sponsoring a bi-partisan bill to help curb gun violence. Led by King, a Republican, and co-sponsored by Suozzi, a Democrat, the bill would expand background check system to include all commercial gun sales and give states more funding if they have a better record-sharing system to report criminals and the mentally ill who shouldn't be allowed to purchase guns.

“We are inspired by the teenagers and high school students who are standing up collectively and demanding ‘not one more,’ and we want to help them organize across Long Island and beyond," Suozzi said in a statement. "This is a young people’s movement and it’s our job as elected officials to shepherd this passion so meaningful action is taken at the congressional level to address gun violence prevention. This is not about Republicans and Democrats. This about doing what is right, and I’m proud to join Congressman King in this bipartisan effort.”

“I am proud to work with Congressman Suozzi on this effort and will continue to advocate for policies that prevent gun violence and keep our communities and children safe," King said in a statement.
