1 Person Dead After LIRR Train Strikes Car

A non-passenger train struck a car Monday night.

A Long Island Rail Road train struck a car on the tracks Monday night and a person inside the car was killed.

The LIRR says a non-passenger equipment train hit an unauthorized vehicle on the tracks in Brentwood around 8 p.m.

Authorities have not yet identified the person killed or said why the vehicle was on the tracks.

"My heart goes out to the family and friends who lost a loved one in this terrible incident," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement.

No one on the train was injured in the crash.

LIRR service was suspended on the Ronkonkoma Branch for about an hour and a half following the crash.
