LIRR Train Strikes Car On Tracks

A train struck a car on the tracks Tuesday​, suspending service on one of the railroad's branches during the morning rush hour.

UPDATE: All service has now been restored on the Ronkonkoma Branch.

BETHPAGE, NY – A Long Island Rail Road train struck a car on the tracks Tuesday, suspending service on one of the railroad's branches during the morning rush hour.

The 6:57 a.m. westbound train from Farmingdale struck "an unauthorized vehicle on the tracks" near Bethpage, the LIRR said on its website.

"My train hit a car this morning," Rebecca Clark, a passenger on the train, wrote on Twitter. "No one hurt. Driver got out before the train hit it. I'm a little shaky."

LIRR service on the Ronkonkoma Branch is currently suspended in both directions east of Hicksville. Commuters are urged to use alternate branches, including the Babylon, Port Jefferson and Oyster Bay lines.
