Long Island Food Conference this Saturday, April 25 at Hofstra University
The Long Island Food Conference - a one day event dedicated to suburban farming, growing and sustainability.

This one day event will feature workshops on a range of topics including “The Life Cycle of Our Food: From Alternative Growing Methods to Reducing Food Waste,” “From Hive to Table: Basic Bee Keeping Practices,” “Creating and Sustaining a Community Garden,” and “From Seed to Superfood: Eating Locally on Long Island Year-Round.” There will also be free interactive children’s workshops on topics ranging from bee basics, butter-making, composting, and gardening.
The benefits of growing one’s own food are vast. There are health, economic, psychological and environmental advantages, which may be why so many people are jumping on the urban and suburban farming bandwagon. Workshops offered at the Food Conference will focus on how to provide individuals with the tools and information necessary to start or develop edible home gardens and community gardens.
In addition to workshops and panels led by professionals in the field and expert gardeners, attendants will have an opportunity to learn more in the exhibitor hall, where local CSA farms, service gardens and representatives will share information nearby programs and products.
