FARMINGDALE, NY — Farmingdale's American Airpower Museum is set to host a series of Warbird Weekends as a patriotic salute to the airpower of the United States, the museum announced.

The events are scheduled for selected Saturdays, weather permitting, for the rest of the 2022 flying season, which runs from July 16 through Oct. 29. Rain dates are Sundays.

"Come and watch extremely rare aircraft, featuring the museum’s squadron of vintage WWII bombers and fighters, as they perform exciting flight demonstrations," the aviation museum wrote in a news release. "The American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport is Long Island’s

The museum maintains a fleet of operational historic WWII aircraft. Weather permitting, the museum may fly one or more of the planes in its collection: a North American B-25 Mitchell Bomber, Douglas C-47B Skytrain Transport, Grumman TBM Avenger Torpedo Bomber, North American P-51D Mustang, Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, North American AT-6 Texan Trainer
and a WACO UPF-7 Biplane.

"Visitors will have the opportunity to see these iconic aircraft in action as they start their engines, taxi to the runway and take to the sky over Long Island as they did over 80 years ago," the museum wrote. "Bring your cameras to catch amazing photos of the planes as they roar by overhead."
