The man punched the clerk in the chest and followed up with a headbutt, police say. The burglary happened Thursday morning.

FARMINGDALE, NY — A West Babylon man was arrested in connection to a burglary at a Farmingdale gas station on Thursday after he attacked the clerk, Nassau police said.
Carlos Alfaro, 39, entered U.S. Gas at 545 Conklin St. at 7:50 a.m. and approached the man behind the counter, police said. Alfaro went behind the counter, kicking merchandise, and then began punching the cashier in his chest, police said. He also kicked the cash register on the counter, knocking it to the floor and damaging it, police said. Alfaro then headbutted the clerk, causing "substantial pain," police said. The cashier ran out of the store and called the police. Alfaro ran off in an unknown direction, police said.
Alfaro returned to the store at 11:49 a.m., where he was arrested, police said. The clerk suffered a contusion to the head and pain to his chest, though he declined medical attention at the gas station, police said. No proceeds were recovered.
