FARMINGDALE, NY — Nutty Offshore, an outdoor Biergarten, had its grand opening on Friday. The Biergarten is an extension of The Nutty Irishman, a bar at 323 Main St.

"We're very happy with the concept and how things came out," Joe Fortuna, the owner, said. "Everyone loves to be outside in the summertime. Being landlocked, we have to be creative in what we can do."

The Nutty Irishman Biergarten will serve as a place for people to listen to live music, drink craft beers and eat summertime and German fare while basking in the elements.

A wooden fence was built, trees and plants were placed, the building was repainted, the dumpster was moved, and the bar was opened up to all sides.

Summer will feature a beach-type menu with fish, fried shrimp and fried clams. German fare will be served during the fall Oktoberfest season along with German beers. The menu currently includes burgers, sandwiches, salads, tacos, and other items from The Nutty Irishman menu, which was recently revamped.

Drinks-wise, Nutty Offshore is serving up more than a dozen specialty cocktails inspired by surfing terminology such as "Rail Banger," "Wipeout Watermelon," and "Dirty Lickings."

The Nutty Irishman is also collaborating with Montauk Brewing Company, as the menu features a handful of the brewery's beers and seltzers each.

Fortuna asked the landlord and Farmingdale Village for permission to extend to the property line behind The Nutty Irishman, as the property had the space for the Biergarten.

"We made a nice outdoor area so people can hang out," Fortuna said. "We're very excited. We called it Nutty Offshore because we're offshore. We tried to make people feel, with the palm trees, that they're at a beach location."

Joe Garcia, president of the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce, congratulated Fortuna and said it is exciting to see more investment in Farmingdale.

"It's great to see business responding to the changes that occurred over the last few years," Garcia said, referencing the shift to more outdoor dining as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Other representatives from Farmingdale Village, Nassau County and New York state attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, including Farmingdale Mayor Ralph Ekstrand.

"What can I say about Joe and The Nutty? They have been phenomenal for everything from our St. Paddy's Day Parade, to promoting the village on your Instagram," Ekstrand said. "I think I get five Instagrams a day from the places you have on Main Street. God bless you."
