Over 100 Decks of Heroin Seized During Nassau County Traffic Stop: Police

Three people were arrested Wednesday night.

A Bethpage traffic stop led to the discovery of more than 100 decks of heroin in the vehicle Wednesday night, Nassau Police say.

According to authorities, Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team officers pulled over a 2001 Nissan Altima on Collector Lane at 10:05 p.m. and noticed the rear passenger was attempting to hide numerous glassine envelopes containing heroin in his pants.

Further investigation led to the discovery of over 100 decks of heroin and 6 Zolpidem pills inside the vehicle, police say.

The rear passenger, 24-year-old Flushing resident Steven Scheufler, was arrested along with the driver and her brother.

Mandy Kougianos, 28, and Nikolas Kougianos, 25, both from Bethpage, were charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Scheufler was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and four counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

All three were arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
