Police Will Be at Farmingdale School After Rumors of Violence

These threats were "unsubstantiated and fueled by hearsay through social media," police said.

The rumors regarding two eighth graders who made threats to harm students at Howitt Middle School in Farmingdale on Monday are untrue, police said.

However, there will still be police presence at the opening of the school, located at 70 Van Cott Ave., on Monday morning.

According to police, school officials received information that two eighth graders made threats to harm students at the school and that one of the students was in possession of a gun.

Detectives became informed of this situation on Sunday and a subsequent investigation revealed that these rumors were unsubstantiated and fueled by hearsay through social media, police said.
