School Supplies Donations – Making a Lasting Difference

One of the Women’s Club of Farmingdale’s ongoing programs has been the annual summer donation to St. Kilian’s Outreach (SKO) for the purchase of backpacks and school supplies for Farmingdale School District students in grades K-12. Started by WCF Welfare Chair, Rosemary Emigholz, this year members bought individual gift cards from Walmart and Target totaling $1,050 and presented them to SKO Director, Jeana Lewis, on Tuesday, August 20.

Many public schools struggle to acquire necessary school resources with their allocated state. Teachers often pull from their own pockets to maintain a fully functional classroom and meet all their students’ needs. Not every family has the financial stability to supply their child with the proper school equipment to succeed. Donations ensure that everyone in the classroom is equipped with the fundamental tools to thrive in school. The next generation is our future and a school supplies donation invests in the future by improving the resources available to students.

Another on-going WCF program organized by Rosemary Emigholz are the “Sing-A-Longs” throughout the year commemorating various holidays. These are special treats for the guests at the Farmingdale Adult Day Care Center (FADCC). The songs are old and new favorites, as well as patriotic ones, and everyone joins in. The most recent sing-a-long favored songs celebrating the Labor Day Holiday. The melodious voices included WCF members, members of St. Kilian’s Choir, Mike (Dir. FADCC), and Rita and Tom Padden on instruments.
