Small Business Development Center Honored at National Conference

Small Business Week in D.C. praised the Farmingdale-based center.

The Small Business Development Center at has won a regional award as part of National Small Business Week, which began today in Washington D.C.

"We are very devoted to our work," said Director Lucille Wesnofske who has more than 20 years of experience in small business consulting and has been the director of the Farmingdale SBDC since 2001. "We'll do whatever we can to help people in Nassau and Suffolk in having the business they dream of."

The center was voted best in Region II of the federal Small Business Administration, which includes New York State, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Since opening, the SBDC has helped 24,605 businesses, has invested $282 million in the local economy and has saved almost 12,000 jobs, according to the Center's records. With the recent news of a , the center has plans to do even more for the local economy.

This spring, the SBDC held a six-part Quickbooks Workshop, partnered with SUNY Old Westbury to offer procurement counseling and has trained entrepreneurs on redevelopment projects in Huntington Station and Wyandanch.

The theme of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s National Small Business Week is "Empowering Entrepreneurs,” and it consists of a series of events and educational forums that will mark the 58th anniversary of the agency and the 48th annual National Small Business Week.
