Town Of Oyster Bay To Begin Pre-Treating Roads Before Snow Fall

In anticipation of the snow expected to hit the area this weekend, the town will begin pre-treating local roads on Friday night.

TOWN OF OYSTER BAY, NY - In anticipation of the snow expected to hit Long Island this weekend, the Town of Oyster Bay announced workers will begin to pre-treat roadways starting Friday night.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory between 6 a.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday. A total of 4 to 6 inches of snow is expected to hit the area.

In order to prepare, the Town Department of Highways will begin pre-treating roadways with sand and salt to prevent black ice from forming at 11 p.m.

“We want to help ensure residents have a safe commute by pre-treating roadways and overpasses to help prevent black ice,” Supervisor Joseph Saladino said. “Our Snowfighting Crew is at the ready to plow and salt roadways. The Town Department of Public Safety is closely monitoring the storm and has put assets in place to assist residents should the need arise.”

The town has a total of 9,000 tons of road salt and sand on hand.

In addition, snow fleet consists of over 300 plow/salt trucks, pick-ups with plows and sanders, payloaders and other equipment that cover nearly 1,000 lane miles throughout the town.

Up-to-date information regarding any closures or changes to Town programs will be posted on the Town’s website, www.oysterbaytown.com, where residents can also sign up for emergency notifications.
