FARMINGDALE, NY - Patch recently took a visit to Charlotte's Speakeasy, which opened up last month in Farmingdale.

Brothers Nick and John DeVito opened up cocktail bar in the basement of Charlotte's Frozen Yogurt at 294 Main Street, which actually did serve as an authentic speakeasy back in the 1920's, when alcohol was illegal.

In order to enter, customers have to go through a secret staircase behind a shelf which leads them to the bar in basement.

The bar may have been updated, but the brothers did still keep some elements from the Prohibition area.

The bar and candle rests were made up of wood posts that held up the ceiling. In addition, part of the old ceiling is used in the bathroom and part of the tin walls that used to surround the speakeasy can be found at the entrance of the bar as well as the on the covers of the menus.
