Joining me today is the author of a novel filled with western humor and an interesting cast of characters. Please welcome Jack Strandburg to discuss his novel, Hustle Henry and the Cue-Ball Kid

Where did you get the inspiration for this book?

As the name suggests, the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid inspired me to write with a more humorous approach.

How did you begin your writing career?

I fell in love with writing when I originally wrote this book in the mid-1980’s, although it wasn’t until the 1990’s I decided to pursue the dream to become a published author.

How do you overcome writers block?

I have never experienced writer’s block in its rawest form – not being able to write anything, because there is always something I can write about. Sometimes I might get stuck when working on a scene or chapter and in those cases; I either break from writing or will brainstorm to come up with a solution to the dilemma.

Are any of your characters modeled after people in your life?

Occasionally I will model certain traits and characteristics, but I strive to steer away from characters too much like myself because I welcome the challenge.

What else are you working on?

My long-term desire is to write and publish in the mystery genre. I am currently working on a rewrite of a mystery novel titled A Head in the Game, originally written in the mid 1990’s. Also on the schedule is a mystery titled War Zone, which I have written 60% of a first draft. In addition to the novel projects, I have three solid ideas for short stories, and attempting to be more diligent and consistent in my blogging as part of my promotion activities.

Wow, you are a busy man. What is your day job?

I am fortunate to be retired.

I look forward to hearing more about your writing. Thank you again for sharing your story with me today. To learn more about Jack Strandburg’s novel, Hustle Henry and the Cue-Ball Kid, please visit www.katie-mcknight-author.com and www-writergirlkatie.wordpress.com
