In September, The Nutty Irishman hosted a mini-fundraiser to benefit on-going efforts in Uganda, Africa, by the daughter of co-president, Parisi, to teach educational and nutritional skills to the children of that area. Through her efforts, Heather Parisi has already opened one school and is hoping to open another one soon. Since the Ambassador for this luncheon, Ann Lomonte, was unable to attend, Rosemary Emigholz stepped up to organize a very successful event attended by many WCF members and friends.

The new co-presidents have been busy even before the new club year began. On September 27, they attended the club’s presentation of an historical book (put together by WCF member Frances Rotondo) on the many accomplishments of Abigail E. Leonard, who not only co-founded the Farmingdale Public Library but was also was the founder of the WCF and an extraordinary Farmingdale community activist.
Two days later, on September 29, the WCF Ways & Means Committee, chaired by Rosemary Emigholz and Lois Carbo, held its main Oktoberfest Fundraiser. It was a sold-out event at the Knights of Columbus with 100 guests in attendance. The buffet food table was prepared by committee members, who also sold tickets for raffle baskets, grand prizes and 50/50. The event raised over $5,000 and the money will be used for scholastic awards to FHS seniors, charitable donations and community projects.
In October, the GFWC Island Metro District meeting was held and in attendance were GFWC-NYS President Candace Edwards, GFWC-NYS President-Elect Linda Kruessling, Island Metro Director Tina Diamond, WCF Co-Presidents Parisi and Stanton, along with several women’s club members from Bellerose, Floral Park, and Farmingdale. Edwards and Diamond enlightened guests on rules for NYS reporting, upcoming Middle Atlantic Region Seminar (MAR) programs and events and GFWC Washington, D.C. goals and signature projects. At this event, the WCF was the proud recipient of a Certificate of Independence from GFWC Signature Project Canine Companions, for their continued support and promotion.
