Worker Injured After Falling Into Grave At Cemetery

The East Farmingdale Fire Department received the call just after starting the annual Santa Ride.

EAST FARMINGDALE, NY - A worker was hospitalized after falling into a grave at an East Farmingdale cemetery on Saturday morning.

According to the East Farmingdale Fire Department, at 9:15 AM after just starting the annual Santa Ride, firefighters were dispatched for an EMS call at St. Charles Cemetery on 2015 Wellwood Avenue.

All units immediately took up from the Santa Ride and responded.

With help from the West Babylon Fire Department, the worker was extricated and transported to a local hospital after about 35 minutes.

The 63-year-old worker fell while preparing the plot for burial and suffered from a serious injury to his ankle, bruised ribs and other minor injuries, according to a report in Newsday.

On Saturday, the department announced that the Santa ride, which was scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., was delayed while they responded to the incident.
