Suffolk To Spray For Mosquitoes Across 3 Fire Island Communities

All streets and boardwalks in the communities will be sprayed on the ground with the ultra-low-volume aerosol pesticide, Anvil.

FIRE ISLAND, NY — The Suffolk County Department of Public Works plans to treat sections of Fire Island, as part of its ongoing annual efforts to control adult mosquitoes, officials said Monday.

All streets and boardwalks in the communities will be sprayed on the ground with the ultra-low-volume aerosol pesticide, Anvil, or sumithrin from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

The communities include Ocean Bay Park on Wednesday, and Davis Park and Water Island on Thursday.

Although the chances of experiencing any health effects from spraying are low, the following steps will help reduce possible exposure to pesticides before, during or after spraying:
