• Suffolk Officials To Treat 2 Fire Island Communities For Mosquitoes (patch.com) — Mosquito control trucks will spray Davis Park and Water Island on Fire Island Thursday from 5:30 to 9 p.m., using an ultra-low-volume Anvil pesticide. Residents and visitors are urged to stay indoors when possible, close windows and AC vents, bring in toys and laundry, and rinse any homegrown produce and exposed items afterward to minimize contact.
• The Last 2026 Issue of Fire Island News Hits Newsstands Ahead of Labor Day Weekend (fireislandnews.com) — Fire Island readers can pick up the Sept. 4 season-ending issue of Fire Island News, packed with farewell columns from community writers and nostalgic looks at summer 2026. The edition also covers the former Botel of Fire Island Pines, a tribute song to a lost Fire Island community, and thanks sponsors who kept the paper free around the Great South Bay.
