No injuries or property damage were reported, and Field 4 remains closed while the FAA investigates and prepares a preliminary incident report.

New Mayor Begins Her First Term After Being Sworn in at Aug. 22 Saltaire Village Board Meeting (fireislandnews.com) — Saltaire residents on Fire Island have a new mayor, as Trustee Susan Skerritt was sworn in after defeating longtime leader Hugh O'Brien in the August village election. At the same meeting, trustees tightened rules on new bike rack sizes, advanced long-term planning for village-owned land, confirmed fire department officers, and honored beloved physician Dr. Bob Furey with a memorial bench.
   

3. 2 Fire Island Communities To Be Sprayed On Ground To Protect Against Mosquitoes (patch.com) — Mosquito control trucks will spray ground pesticides in Atlantique on Wednesday evening and Davis Park on Thursday evening, affecting all streets and boardwalks. Residents are urged to stay indoors during spraying, close windows and AC vents, bring in toys and laundry, and rinse any exposed produce or clothing to minimize contact with the chemicals used.
   

4. Coast Guard, West Islip Fire Department Save 5 in Dramatic Water Recue Near Fire Island Inlet (longisland.com) — Emergency crews rescued five people after a boat began sinking near the Fire Island Inlet, with the Coast Guard towing the submerged vessel back to Coast Guard Station Fire Island. West Islip and neighboring fire departments coordinated a fast response, evaluated all patients, and transported one person with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials praised the teamwork that helps keep boaters around Fire Island safe.
   

5.
