Board of Education Appoints Danielle Flaumenhaft as Principal of Woodhull School

Leadership transition strengthens instructional leadership while maintaining the district's longstanding commitment to students

The Fire Island Board of Education has appointed Mrs. Danielle Flaumenhaft as Principal of Woodhull School, marking an exciting new chapter in the district's continued commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience for every child.

Mrs. Flaumenhaft enters her fourth year with the Fire Island School District, bringing extensive experience as a classroom teacher, literacy coach, school administrator, and adjunct university professor. Since joining Woodhull School, she has become a trusted instructional leader whose dedication to students, collaborative approach, and commitment to educational excellence have earned the respect of staff, families, and the community.

"This leadership model allows us to further strengthen the daily educational experience for our students while expanding our overall leadership capacity as a district," said Superintendent Travis Davey. "Strong schools are built not by titles, but by teams of dedicated professionals working together on behalf of children. This transition allows each member of our leadership team to focus more intentionally on the work they do best."

As Principal, Mrs. Flaumenhaft will provide day-to-day instructional and operational leadership for Woodhull School while Superintendent Davey continues leading districtwide initiatives, including long-range planning, educational innovation, fiscal stewardship, partnerships, facilities, and strategic planning, while maintaining an active daily presence throughout the school.

The leadership transition was accomplished within the district's voter-approved budget and reflects the Board of Education's continued commitment to balancing innovation with responsible financial stewardship.

At the same meeting, the Board of Education appointed Ms. Margaret Horton to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Education. Ms. Horton is a respected member of the Fire Island community, a former Board member, and the parent of Woodhull alumni. The district extends its appreciation to Ms. Horton for her willingness to once again serve the students, families, and residents of Fire Island.

These appointments reflect the district's ongoing commitment to the vision established through its Strategic Plan: nurturing a welcoming and familial learning environment where engaging and personalized experiences inspire a lifelong passion for learning while preparing caring, innovative, and future-ready citizens.
