Marine Officers Hear Screams, Help Save Woman From Fire Island Pool: Police

OCEAN BAY PARK, NY — Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers helped save a 19-year-old woman who was pulled unresponsive from a pool in Ocean Bay Park on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Sgt. Kelly Locascio and Officers Jordan Colon and Tyler Williams were on foot patrol near 56 East Bay View Walk at about 1 p.m. when they heard screams coming from a backyard, police said.

When the officers responded, they learned that the woman, who police described as a childcare provider, had gone underwater and failed to resurface, police said. The homeowner entered the pool, pulled her out and began CPR, police said.

Williams took over CPR, and the woman regained consciousness after expelling water and beginning to breathe on her own, police said.

The officers transported her aboard Marine Boat Juliet to Timber Point Marina, where Islip Exchange personnel met them and brought her to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, police said.

She was listed in stable condition, police said.
