3 Children Left Unattended In Car; Mother Charged: Nassau Police

VALLEY STREAM, NY — A woman has been arrested for leaving her three children unattended in a car at the Green Acres Mall, police said.

Ciara Sockwell, 28, of Queens, was charged on Thursday after an investigation, with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She was scheduled for arraignment on Friday, according to police.

Police were alerted by a witness who saw the children in the vehicle at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday. The car was not running and the windows were partially open.

The children, aged 1, 4 and 9, were evaluated by a police medic and were unharmed. They were placed in the custody of a family friend, police said.
