#78 - Make a Splash at North Woodmere Park Pool

Fight off the summer heat at this Five Towns swimming complex.

With the dog days of summer approaching, everyone is looking for ways to stay cool. One of the best ways to beat the heat is to spend the day at the pool at .

With six pools to choose from, there’s something for all ages and swimming abilities. The kids will have fun in the wading, training, interactive and slide pools. There’s also a dive pool and a huge Olympic pool, where you can do laps or free swim.

In between, relax on one of the deck chairs, some of which are in shaded areas. You can pack a lunch or buy something at the concession stand, where there are plenty of tables and benches to enjoy your meal. There are also lockers, dressing rooms and showers.

Besides individuals and families, this is a popular destination for camp groups. Swimming lessons are available.

As far as children’s safety, parents can rest easy. Every pool has at least one Red Cross certified lifeguard, although several areas have more than one on duty. There is also a well-staffed, centrally located lifeguard station in case of any emergency.

Admission is considerably cheaper if you’ve got a leisure pass. But if you don’t have one, any Nassau County resident can pick one up at the administrative building across from the pool entrance. There are further discounts for kids, seniors, the disabled, volunteer firefighters and auxiliary police. If you think you’ll be visiting often, it might pay to sign up for the season membership.

Want to avoid the crowds? According to staff, the least crowded day of the week is Saturday.

The pool is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays. So between now and Labor Day, enjoy one of the Five Towns most refreshing and relaxing spots.
