Lawrence Primary School Hosts Successful Annual Family Math Night

LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (FEBRUARY 2024)—Lawrence Primary School recently hosted its highly anticipated Family Math Night, an annual event that brings together educators, students, and family members for an engaging evening of mathematical challenges and activities.

“We were thrilled to see our students and their families enthusiastically participating in mathematical activities,” said Dr. Kristen Panzarella, Principal of Lawrence Primary School. “Children’s early mathematics achievement is associated with several success factors later in life. Events like Family Math Night make learning math fun and foster a sense of collaboration and critical thinking among our students.”

The event saw students showcasing their number sense and problem-solving skills as they engaged in a variety of collaborative mathematical activities. From participating in mathematical-based board games to solving intricate puzzles, students demonstrated their mathematical knowledge and teamwork throughout the night.

One of the highlights of the evening was a creative STEAM challenge where students were tasked with building the tallest snowman they could using only toothpicks and marshmallows. As they meticulously tracked the materials used and applied their problem-solving skills, students utilized mathematical reasoning to determine the structural integrity of their snowman creations.
