INWOOD, NY — A pair of men were arrested on Tuesday night in Inwood.
Officers observed a 2002 Mercedez Benz with a defective brake light near the intersection of Bayview Avenue and Gates Avenue.
During an investigation it was revealed that the passenger, Elvis Montenegro, 44, of Far Rockaway, was in possession illegally of a firearm. He was placed into custody without incident, detectives said.
Additionally, officers recovered a white powdery substance, believed to be crack cocaine, and a white powdery substance, believed to be MDMA, from the vehicle, police said.
The driver, Harold De Los Rios, 38, of Cedarhurst, was also placed under arrest. He was charged with a count of criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
Montenegro faces second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and was scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday. De Los Rios has been issued an appearance ticket to return to court on May 25.
