Bathing Advisory Lifted For Hewlett Point Beach

The bathing advisory has been lifted for all five South Shore beaches as of Wednesday morning, according to the Department of Health.

Hewlett Point Beach in East Rockaway is now reopen.

An advisory against bathing at five South Shore beaches have been issued by the Department of Health on Tuesday due to the heavy rainfall.

Due to heavy rainfall, the Nassau County Department of Health has issued a swimming advisory at five South Shore beaches, effective today, June 28, 2016.

In East Rockaway, the advisory was issued for Hewlett Point Beach.

In addition, Biltmore Beach Club in Massapequa, Island Park Beach in Island Park, Philip Healy Beach in Massapequa and the Merrick Estates Civic Association in Merrick have also been issued the advisory.

The advisory, effective June 28, is issued as a precautionary measure for beaches known to be impacted by stormwater runoff caused by heavy rainfall.

Stormwater runoff can impact bathing water quality by elevating bacteria levels, which may cause exceedances of the New York State standard for bathing water quality.
