CURRAN TO HOLD 5th ANNUAL EASTER & PASSOVER BASKET DRIVE FOR NEEDY

Press Release

Assemblyman encourages community to donate during event

With Easter and Passover approaching, Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st A.D.) is once again reaching out to the community for their support in helping the less fortunate in the community by collecting donations of food, toys and other gifts for Easter and Passover baskets. The Christian Easter holiday is Sunday, March 27 and the Jewish holiday of Passover begins at sundown on Friday, April 22.

“Easter is a time when people celebrate their faith with the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and I’ve always been moved by the Haggadah’s opening call in the Sedar for ‘all who are hungry, come and eat; all who are needy, come and celebrate Passover,’” said Curran. “In the past, the families in this community have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our neighbors, local businesses and organizations. Their outpouring of aid and assistance to make the Easter and Passover holidays easier for residents truly personifies the spirit of the season, and it is why I’m committed to ensuring that the people who may be struggling this year receive what they need to make their celebrations better.”

Hundreds of Easter and Passover baskets have been collected and handed out to families in the community, children in the pediatric units of Mercy Medical Centre and South Nassau Communities Hospital, Freeport schools, and Baldwin St. Christopher’s Food Pantry, among other patron organizations.

Curran’s office will donate Passover items to Chabad of West Hempstead, Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre and other synagogues to expand the donation program to bring Passover food to those who need it the most.
