Drunken Man Crashes Into 2 Nassau Cop Cars: Police
The cars were heavily damaged after a man crashed his pickup truck into them, police say.
VALLEY STREAM, NY — A man was charged with DWI after he crashed into two cop cars in Valley Stream on Monday, Nassau police said.
Richard Welch, 59, of Climax, New York, was operating his black pickup truck southbound on South Central Avenue when he struck two unoccupied Nassau County police vehicles that were parked for an unrelated call around 10 p.m., police said. Welch was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out and treated, police said. Both police vehicles were heavily damaged and taken out of service for repairs, police said. No officers were injured, the department said.
Welch was charged with DWI and will be arraigned when medically practical at First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead.
