Duo Broke Into Man's Apartment After Refusing to Trade Playstation Console For Laptop: Police

The two threatened the man with a 5-inch knife and hit another man in the apartment with a metal golf club, police say.

ELMONT, NY - Two Elmont men were arrested for breaking into an Elmont home after the resident kicked them out and refused to trade a Playstation 3 console for a laptop on Thursday night, according to Nassau Police.

Jamel Washington, 24, and Terrence McBride, 18, went to the apartment to try to make the trade at about 11:55 p.m., but the 40-year-old resident refused and ordered the two men to leave his Hempstead Turnpike home, police said.

As the man was closing the door, the two became irate and forcibly pushed opened the door and re-entered the apartment, police said.

Washington then threatened the man with a 5 inch knife, while McBride grabbed a metal golf club and proceeded to hit another man who was also inside the apartment on his legs, police said.

The two then tried unsuccessfully to grab the laptop and fled the scene, police said.

After a search of the area, officers arrested Washington on Hempstead Turnpike and Elmont Road at 1 a.m.. police said.

McBride was later arrested at 1:47 a.m. in front of 535 Hempstead Turnpike, police said.

Washington and McBride are being charged with first degree burglary, two counts of fourth degree attempted robbery, fourth degree criminal mischief, third degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth degree possession of a dangerous weapon, police said.

They will be arraigned on Friday.
