Duo Stole $25K Worth of Merchandise, $6,600 in Cash From Long Island Macy's: Police

The woman, who was employed by Macy's, used her employee key and a passcode to disarm the alarm and enter the store, police say.

VALLEY STREAM, NY - Two people were arrested for stealing $25,000 worth of merchandise and $6,600 in cash from a Macy's in Valley Stream over a two-week period, according to Nassau Police.

Jasmine Hylton, 29, and Kevin Peterkin, 26, both of Queens, entered the store in the Green Acres Mall while it was closed on four separate dates: April 20, 25, 26 and May 1, police said.

They stole $17,000 in clothing, $8,000 in electronics and housewares, plus the cash from various cash registers, police said.

Hylton was employed by Macy’s and used her employee key and an uninvolved supervisors’ pass code to disarm the alarm and enter the closed store, police said.

After an investigation, detectives were able to arrest Hylton at her job on Thursday at 3:35 p.m., police said.

Peterkin was placed under arrest on Friday at 12:20 a.m. in front of his home, police said.

A total of $10,000 worth of merchandise and $1,430 in cash was recovered inside the home, police said.

Hylton is charged with four counts of third degree burglary. Peterkin is charged with three counts of third degree burglary.

They were both arraigned on Friday. Hylton is being held on $1,000 bail. Peterkin's bail was set at $1,500.
