Elmont Memorial High School Senior Accepted to all 8 Ivy League Schools

Congratulations to Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna!

ELMONT, NY - The Sewanhaka Central High School District recently announced that Elmont Memorial High School valedictorian Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna has been accepted to all eight Ivy League schools.

The high school senior, who has a 101.64 weighted GPA, applied to a total of 12 colleges and was accepted to all.

She is still undecided on which college she plans to attend, but she knows she wants to pursue a science-related major and is hoping to go to a college where she can combine her varied scientific interests, which include biochemistry and environmental studies.

Uwamanzu-Nna has until May 1 to make her final decision.

"I am humbled by all of the college acceptance letters that I recently received,” she said. “I am reminded that I have a responsibility to be a role model for others and use my experiences to encourage and inspire others, especially young women.”

In addition to being named valedictorian, Uwamanzu-Nna was named a finalist in the 2016 Intel Science Talent Search.

She says she is thankful and that her accomplishments reflect the hardworking ideals of the town of Elmont, her parents and her teachers.

“My parents have always taught me the value of hard work, and I am very thankful for that,” she said. “My teachers at Elmont Memorial have also played a major role in my development."

In addition to being accepted to each Ivy League school, Uwamanzu-Nna was also granted admission to Johns Hopkins University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New York University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
