Voters Easily Approve Elmont School Budget, New Member Elected to BOE

Elmont residents headed to the polls Tuesday.

Elmont residents approved a 2016-17 school budget on Tuesday.

The $85.8 million budget was approved by a margin of 1,132 to 329. The budget is a 1.24 percent spending increase over the current year.

Voters also elected incumbents Michael A. Jaime and Tameka Battle-Burkett, who were running unopposed, to the Elmont Board of Education.

Challenger Michael Cantara beat out incumbent Leslyn Stewart 694-422or the third seat.
