Far Rockaway Man Arrested After Gunpoint E-Bike Stickup: PD

INWOOD, NY — A Far Rockaway man is facing charges this week after he was accused of taking an e-bike from a pair of 15-year-olds at gunpoint in Inwood, police said.

Nassau County police said 26-year-old Lavon Smith was arrested Sunday at about 9:34 p.m. According to police, the pair of teens were riding the e-bike along Bayview Avenue in Inwood when Smith “brandished a handgun” and demanded that they turn over the e-bike. Police said the teens complied with Smith’s demands, turning over the bike, which Smith then used to leave the scene.

After an investigation, police found Smith and arrested him, recovering a stolen gun in the process, police said. There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident, police said.

Following his arrest, Smith is facing one count of first-degree robbery, two counts of first-degree criminal use of a firearm, one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of criminal possession of a firearm, one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and one count of second-degree menacing, police said.

Court records show Smith has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
