Green Acres Mall Handing Out Free Backpacks To Students

VALLEY STREAM, NY — As students make the trek back to school, Green Acres Mall is launching the first backpack giveaway.

The Aug. 19 event is aimed at supporting local families by handing out free backpacks with essential school supplies.

Students will receive backpacks on a first-come, first-served basis.

Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages, Town of Hempstead Councilwoman Melissa Miller and Town of Hempstead Councilwoman Laura Ryder are expected to attend.

"Back-to-school season is an exciting time, but can also be filled with natural anxiety for children who might be heading to a new school in the fall and for parents who have to financially prepare to provide the necessary supplies to help them start the school year off right," Jill Bromberg, Marketing Manager of Green Acres Mall, said.

It takes place from noon-2 p.m. in the mall's center court.

“We are proud that our amazing interns played a role in packing the 1000 backpacks with much-needed school supplies that will be distributed at the Back to School Backpack Giveaway event this weekend and to organizations that connect with local children," Solages said.
