Heroin Overdose Leads To Arrest Of Five Towns Drug Dealer: Police

BREAKING: After saving a person from an overdose, police say they were able to track down the man who sold the heroin to the victim.

A near-fatal heroin overdose led police to arresting a suspected drug dealer in Lynbrook Wednesday evening.

According to Nassau Police, Lynbrook Police officers responded to a call for a person who overdosed on heroin around at 1:15 p.m. The person was administered naloxone, which counteracts the effects of an opiate overdose, and transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Police say that an investigation, with the assistance of the Nassau County Narcotics Vice Bureau, determined that 25-year-old Josef Dahari, of Howard Avenue in Woodmere, was the person who sold heroin to the overdose victim. Detectives were able to meet Dahari in the parking lot of the CVS located at 633 Merrick Road in Lynbrook at 5:42 p.m. and he was found to be in possession of 80 bags of heroin, police say.

According to police, as officers attempted to place Dahari under arrest, he fought with them. After a struggle, officers were able to handcuff him and take him into custody. He was then found to also be in possession of an amphetamine pill, police say.

Dahari is charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
