VALLEY STREAM, NY — A homeless man is accused trying to kill a man early Tuesday in a Valley Stream laundromat.

Police responded to the Laundry Palace on West Merrick Road, just after 2 a.m.

The victim, in his 50s, was struck numerous times with a machete.

Roberto Velasquez was located a short time later and placed into custody without incident, authorities said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

Velasquez faces second-degree murder (attempt) and first-degree assault. He was scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday.
