Hundreds gather together for Russian Shabbat
Chabad of Hewlett hosted a historic night for nearly 300 people to join for a festive Friday night meal. Dedicated to the russian community
On June 17th, Chabad of Hewlett hosted a historic night bringing together nearly 300 people to join for a festive Friday night meal.
This night was dedicated to the families living in Hewlett and surrounding towns from the former Soviet Union. “What made the evening magical was seeing so many different people from the community – from kids to senior citizen all together with a common goal – to experience bring in Shabbat together as a community” said Alex Stein long-time resident of Hewlett. “We saw an opportunity to connect more Russian speaking families to one-another to continue to foster a beautiful feeling of community – all with a little L’Chaim” said Rabbi Tenenboim Chabad of Hewlett spiritual leader .
The event was held in a spacious tent, catered with a beautiful 4-course meal. The children had non-stop entertainment and enjoyed meeting new friends, “It was so fun seeing my friends all dressed up” said, Nicol , a Hewlett Elementary 2nd grader and Chabad Jewish Kids Club member. A highlight of the evening was seeing hundreds of women and girls lighting candles together ushering in the peace and warm of Shabbat. It was the perfect way to end a memorable year of growth, friendship and learning at Chabad of Hewlett.
