Lawrence Elementary School Science Club Makes Ice Cream

LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (APRIL 2022)—Lawrence Elementary School’s Science Club, advised by Glenda Kampton, meets every Wednesday morning, providing club members with opportunities to further their study of science by participating in weekly science projects. For example, on one Wednesday morning, Science Club students focused on Earth Science and made volcanoes that erupted. On another Wednesday, club members studied chemistry and made lava lamps to demonstrate that oil and water do not mix.

In tune with the warmer spring weather, Science Club members decided to make ice cream as their science-oriented project. They learned about the interesting chemistry that takes place during the ice cream-making process, including how the ingredients change during the process.

“The Science Club is a great way for students with a passion for science to nurture that passion and take their curiosity to a new level,” said Rina Beach, Principal of Lawrence Elementary School. “Ms. Kampton does a wonderful job creating interesting and compelling projects that both educate and engage Club members.”
