Lawrence High School Student Receives Prestigious Scholarship
New York American Water awards Hannah Grontas a $3,000 Scholarship to Pursue a Career in Biology.

Through its partnership with the New York Chapter of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC-NY), New York American Water recently awarded Hannah Grontas of North Woodmere a scholarship amounting to $3,000. This is the eighth consecutive year that New York American Water has offered scholarships to high school students within its service area who are passionate about fostering the future workforce and leaders of the water industry.
“We congratulate Hannah on all of her achievements and wish her nothing but the best as she take the next step in her education,” said Carmen Tierno, President of New York American Water. “We look forward to learning more about her future successes and contributions to ensure a safe and sustainable water supply is available for all.”
Hannah is currently a senior at Woodmere High School and she is one of five recipients of this scholarship throughout the New York American Water Service area. She is attending High Point University in the fall and will be majoring in biology.

While attending Lawrence High School, Hannah was well-rounded, and was on the high honor Roll and varsity softball team, as well as the captain of the tennis team. She was also part of the Fiber Arts Life Skills Class Assistance team, which assisted special needs high school students with art projects. Outside of school, Hannah was the president of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America Club for four years. The club is nationally recognized for their service in “Spreading the Sunshine” and working together to help others.
