Lawrence Middle School Showcases Student Talent at Winter Concert
Lawrence Middle School proudly had their annual Winter Concert, featuring outstanding performances by the 8th-grade orchestra, band, and chorus. The concert highlighted the dedication, growth, and musical artistry of the school’s student musicians under the direction of their music educators.
The evening opened with selections by the orchestra, directed by Mrs. Pamela Gallopini. The orchestra performed Burst by Brian Balmages, Double Agent by Brian Balmages, and Huevos Rancheros by George T. Frueh—energetic and expressive works that showcase precision, rhythm, and ensemble collaboration.
Next, the 8th Grade Band, under the direction of Ms. Elizabeth Betz, will take the stage with a dynamic program including Celebratory Fanfare by Scott Watson, Down to the River by Michael Sweeney, and Magma by Larry Clark. These selections highlight the band’s versatility, from bold fanfares to rich, flowing melodies and powerful contemporary sounds.

The concert concludes with performances by the 8th Grade Chorus, directed by Mrs. Susan Rogan. Choral selections include Smooth (words and music by Rob Thomas and Itaal Shur, arranged by Mac Huff), The Song of Purple Summer (music by Duncan Sheik, lyrics by Steven Sater, arranged by Mark Brymer), and Circles (words and music by Austin Post, Kaan Gunesberk, Louis Bell, William Walsh, and Adam Feeney, arranged by Jack Zaino). Together, these pieces offer a blend of popular music and musical theater, emphasizing vocal expression and harmony.
The Lawrence Middle School Winter Concert is a celebration of student achievement and the strong music education program that supports creativity, discipline, and teamwork. Families, friends, and community members are invited to enjoy an evening of exceptional student performances and a seasonal musical celebration.
