Lawrence Union Free School District Observes Patriot Day
Students at Lawrence Honors Patriot Day with classroom activities and flag ceremony
LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (SEPTEMBER 2023)—The Lawrence Union Free School District observed Patriot Day recently with a flag ceremony to honor and remember the heroes and the lives lost on September 11, 2001. “Patriot Day holds great significance for our nation, serving as a reminder of the tragic events that unfolded 22 years ago,” said Dr. Ann Pedersen, Superintendent of Schools. “It is a day to pay tribute to the thousands of innocent men, women, and children who lost their lives on that day, and the heroic efforts of those first responders who gave their lives in trying to save others. .”
The flag ceremony, held at Lawrence Elementary School, Lawrence Primary School, and Lawrence UPK brought together students, faculty, staff, and community members to reflect on the impact of 9/11 and to demonstrate their unwavering patriotism. The event commenced with the facilities crew assisting in the changing of the American flag and hoisting the new flag to half-mast. A moment of silence was observed to honor the victims, followed by the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. The national anthem was sung, filling the air with a sense of honor and pride. Back in their classrooms, students continued to observe Patriot Day by crafting American flags while wearing red, white, and blue.
