Lawrence Young Learners Participate in March Mathness!

Family Math Night at Lawrence

LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (APRIL 2023)—Families from Lawrence Early Childhood Center, Lawrence Primary School, and Lawrence Elementary School gathered recently for a fun night of March Mathness. This kindergarten through the sixth-grade event was built on the fluency focus from their first Family Math Night. Students engaged with their families in various activities that focused on developing students’ mathematical skills.

“Family Math Night at Lawrence is always a great opportunity for our students and families to gather to further promote parent engagement while students reinforce their mathematical skills,” said Dr. Ann Pedersen, Superintendent of Lawrence Schools. “This is an easy-going actionable event that students benefit from while participating in a wide range of games and activities. Students learn about team-building and hone in on their math skills while parents can learn strategies to benefit their child to further their academic success.”

Throughout the night, students and families rotated through three different stations. At each station, activities focused on fluency facts for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. For example, students used their mathematical problem-solving skills at one station as they played different board games, working as teams to build the tallest tower. In one of the board games called Connect Four, students solved multiplication problems, using the products to create the tallest tower in a set amount of time.
