LI Cares Plans New Food Pantry In Valley Stream

The location was secured by a $200,000 state grant.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — Long Island Cares is opening a new satellite food pantry.

The location at 241 Rockaway Ave. in Valley Stream is expected to open in November, once construction is completed.

Long Island Cares anticipates that based on the area and people in need, it will be one of the busiest food pantries. Freeport has the most activity.

Helping the Valley Stream location off the ground, they secured a $200,000 state grant, obtained by Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages.

Long Island Cares is the island's first food bank, founded more than four decades ago by singer, songwriter and activist Harry Chapin.
