LI Man In Custody After Daughter Dies In Fire In Chained Car: PD

Police say the 3-year-old girl died after being trapped in a car that was chained shut and set on fire. Her father was also burned.

A Long Island man is in custody after police say his daughter was pulled from a flaming car that was chained shut in Queens Sunday night.

Zoey Pereira, a 3-year-old Queens girl, died after emergency responders pulled her from a 2008 Audi sedan that was on fire at 154th Street and Baisley Boulevard in South Jamaica, according to police. The flaming car was chained shut, trapping her in the back seat. She was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where she died.

Her father, a 39-year-old man from Valley Stream, is in custody. Police have not yet released his name.

According to The Daily News, witnesses saw the girl's father, who was on fire, run from the car and into a nearby pond to douse the flames on him. Police later found him in the pond. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital is serious but stable condition. Police say propane tanks were found near the car.

PIX11 reported that the the father and mother, who were not married, were in the middle of a custody battle over the girl.

Though the father is in custody, he has not yet been charged.
