Man Burglarized Elmont, Floral Park Homes: Police

Proceeds from the burglaries including laptops, jewelry and credit cards were found in the man's home, police say.

ELMONT, NY - An Elmont man was arrested on Wednesday for burglarizing several Elmont and Floral Park homes between March and May, according to Nassau Police.

After an investigation into several burglaries that occurred between March 31 and May 4, detectives identified and arrested 40-year-old Richard Ryan, on Wednesday at 2:40 p.m. after he was seen exiting the Goldis Pawn Shop in Hempstead, police said.

Detectives recovered most of the stolen items from Ryan's home including computer laptops, assorted jewelry and credit cards, police said.

The items were stolen from the following homes that were burglarized:

  • March 31 - Geranium Avenue, Floral Park
  • April 25 - Hunnewell Avenue, Elmont
  • May 2 - Oakley Avenue, Elmont
  • May 4 - Evans Avenue, Elmont

The investigation also led to the arrest of 34-year-old Sheila Rivera, who surrendered to the Nassau County Police Department on Wednesday at 9:20 p.m., police said.

On April 25, Rivera used a stolen credit card from one of the burglaries at a Valley Stream Walmart to try to purchase merchandise, police said.

Ryan is being charged with six counts of second degree burglary, police said.

Rivera is being charged with fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, police said.

They will be arraigned on Thursday.
